Aggressive Author Article Archiving and Achievement

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Online Article submission websites are often astounding as aggressive article authors submit Massive Monthly Manufactured Manuscripts. Some online article authors have submitted over 300 articles in only 15 days. Recently on the premier online article submission website a gentleman completed this 300 article submission marathon only to be challenged by a critic who stated if indeed these authors wrote all those articles in only 15-days then that would be incredible.

Yes, this is true if one wrote 50 to 300 articles in a 15-day period it would be incredible. It appeared to most that the critic was implying it may not actually be possible to do such a thing. From personal experience; I can tell you it is also very hard work, no matter how you cut it. If they were pre-written before the 15-day submission point, well that is a lot of articles in its self. Either way 300 articles is a lot of writing.

Without bragging and really only using this personal example to make a point; I know one month I shattered any known record as I wrote 286,000 words in one month. Now then having done that I know it is possible to write 300 articles in 15-days. Look, if I can do that and I am not even a writer then anyone can. So therefore nothing surprises me when online submission article writers come up with 300 articles in 15-days or a 600 article in one month pace. Something that does surprise me however is one who prevents them self from doing so because they actually believe they can’t. So I know it is possible, because I have written 286,000 words in one month and yes I have never heard of anyone else ever doing it. But I have heard of authors of novels hitting 150,000 plus words in a month before and read about a contest where every November authors come and write a 50,000 word article in 30-days. Let me translate that into online article numbers for you; that would be 125 articles at 400 words each at 300 words each it is 167 articles. One month I wrote 570 articles and all were original. Today I wrote 9 articles in 2-hours. To me this has become quite easy, but as a long distance runner so is running 10-miles.

Now mind you I am not perfect by any means in my writing, yet we should put these things into perspective. I am very impressed with the author who posted 300 articles in 15-days, Don and his thought provoking and controversial articles surely no one can deny. That man can make you think, even if you might disagree and he had already admitted that he has been writing for years and therefore he has the skill to write that many articles off the cuff, even if many these were pre-written. Just because some were pre-written in his case doesn’t mean he couldn’t do it. I know he can, as I know I can and I know you could if you would apply yourself, because if I can do it you can too.

Fact is these folks who post 50-300 articles in 15-30 days have written quite a bit are are much better writers than I am. Whether they wrote them during the 15 days is not as important as the fact that now they will get maximum benefit from posting them online in the here and now. What an incredible group of writers there are online, whether or not all or some of these articles were writing between the dates of December 1 and December 15. I am quite happy to see all these writers get their just due thru the synergies and economies of scale of EzineArticles.com with over 100,000 articles online and 15,000 authors. What a rush to ride this Tsunami, which is reshaping the landscape of the World Wide Web. Think on it.

Cheap Texas Auto Insurance Rates

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Texas Auto Insurance Coverage Legal Requirements

  • Bodily Injury Liability for one person: $25,000 Limit
  • Bodily Injury Liability for every person involved:$50,000 Limit
  • Property Damage Liability: $25,000 Limit

*Higher limit requirements passed into effect on 4/1/08

In Texas, somebody must always be found responsible for causing an accident and they, along with their auto insurance agency, are responsible for covering subsequent costs. This complies with the laws of the tort system – a system that has varied rules depending on the state.

To have better insurance security, you can opt for uninsured/underinsured insurance coverage. This auto insurance coverage option helps to cover the expenses involved with bodily injury caused in an accident with an uninsured person. This type of auto insurance coverage isn’t mandated in the state of Texas, but it is advocated to at least look into seeing if this coverage would be good for you.

The state of Texas has slightly higher insurance rates compared to othe regions in the U.S. In 2003, the national average was $914 while in Texas, the average person paid around $932. The Texas government does not completely moderate auto insurance rate quotes even though thousands of people are under the premiss that there is one set price for auto insurance. This plainly is not correct – there are some ways that you can get cheaper quotes on your insurance policy. Your Texas auto insurance rates can be lowered in several ways. Two such ways are by preserving a safe and sound driving history or by taking a defensive driving class.

Using auto insurance comparison sites can allow you to see if you’re paying too much for your insurance policy.Insurance companies like these get pricing immediately, allowing people to view them side by side. Many also have posts with information on lowering your auto insurance rates.

After not having a lowering since 1999, insurance insurance premiums finally decreased in 2007. There was a .5% to 1% lessening in auto insurance rates from 2006 auto insurance rates! 2008 followed in the first half, but then insurance rates began to follow their normal cycle and grow slightly. Increases like these have been forcing people to see if they can reduce their monthly auto insurance rates using auto insurance rate comparison sites. These websites have facilitated the change by bringing competition straight to the consumer and by lowering your premiums through technology!

As your driving history gets stronger or your personal situation changes, you may not be getting all the discounts you qualify for and will end up paying more for insurance. Recently, costs rose almost 6% in one year! You’re insurance agency will continue to get more expensive your insurance expenses, but it is on much rarer occasions that they proactively decrease your insurance costs. To compare auto insurance quotes, use the power of the internet and visit sites that will help you find the least expensive auto insurance rates in Texas.

Gutenberg and Movable Type

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Good typography is like bread: ready to be admired, appraised, and dissected before it is consumed. ~ Bringhurst Elements of Typographic Style

In the year of 1448, the birth of printing, movable type replaced hand-copied manuscripts. Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of movable type, is known for his heavy blackletter typestyle. This typestyle was popular in Germany at the time. From there, printers were inspired to improve on this system. Gutenberg was a goldsmith from Mainz, Germany, and he was the first to carve the characters of the alphabet onto metal punches (which were driven into other pieces of metal called matrices). The movable type could fit into printing presses. This process was called letterpress printing.

The first book Gutenberg printed with his movable type was the Bible. The scribes would take years to a lifetime to hand-write them, and now Gutenberg was able to make them in a fraction of the time. His invention enabled everyone to be able to circulate information so much easier.

Just recently while antique shopping, I found an old drawer filled with wood and metal typography. The printer’s drawer (that now hangs on my wall) means so much to meit made the history of movable type real to me. In light of studying about print and typography, I really appreciate what Gutenberg did for us. Written communication is all around us today; in fact, there is no end to what can be found. Books are so precious to us. John Milton said it best: “A good book is the precious life-blood of a master spirit, embalmed and treasured up on purpose to a life beyond life.”

And best yet, according to Daniel J. Boorstein: “A wonderful thing about a book, in contrast to a computer screen, is that you can take it to bed with you.” (Revised 2/16/2006)

Story Structure: Jungle Book

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

The Hero’s Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon – understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters.

The Hero’s Journey:

Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to be created.

The Hero’s Journey is also a study of repeating patterns in successful stories and screenplays. It is compelling that screenwriters have a higher probability of producing quality work when they mirror the recurring patterns found in successful screenplays.

Story Structure: Jungle Book

FADE IN: Music and scenery of India; the Ordinary World of the jungle.

Meeting the Supernatural Aid / Mentor and the Hero; hero’s back story: Bagheera finds the orphan Mowgli, who is raised by Akela the wolf et al.

Foreshadow of the Adventure: Bagheera knows that one day Mowgli will have to return.

Call to Adventure: Shere Khan has returned and Mowgli must go back to the man village.

Resistance to the Call: Daddy Wolf doesn’t want “his son” to go.

Pushed into the Journey: Bagheera agrees to take Mowgli to the man village.

Developing the Antagonism: Bagheera explains why Shere Khan wants to kill Mowgli.

Saved by the Mentor: Bhageera saves Mowgli.

Hero saves Mentor: Mowgli saves Bhageera from Kaa.

Meeting Allies: Mowgli meets the elephants.

Foreshadow of a future confrontation: “just you wait until I get you in my coils.”

Physical Separation: Mowgli pushes Bhageera away; Bhageera leaves him to fend for himself.

Entering the World of the Transformation: Entering Baloo territory.

Meeting a new Mentor: Mowgli meets Baloo.

Transformation; Trial 1 (passive): learning to growl.

Transformation; Trial 2 (passive): looking for the “bare necessities.”

Transformation; Trial 3 (active): Mowgli sings along; becomes a bear.

Meeting the Oracle: come and get him champ; the monkeys take Mowgli.

Conflict on the Journey to the Sword: Baloo fights with the monkeys.

Apotheosis: Baloo realises that Bhageera is right; Mowlgli can’t be a bear.

Ultimate Boon: Mowgli likes being a bear.

Refusal of the Return: Mowgli want to return to the Man Village; accuses Baloo of being just like Bhageera.

Magic Flight: Mowgli runs and Baloo and Bhageera pursue.

Shape Shifter turns; Antagonist’s power over the Shape Shifter demonstrated: Kaa lies to Shere Khan and saves Mowgli; Shere Khan very free with his claws.

Antagonist confident of victory: Shere Khan thinks Mowgli is “a helpless little lad.”

Rescue from Without: the vultures can make Mowgli an honorary vulture; he has new friends and dances again.

Master of the Two Worlds (catharsis 1): Battling Shere Khan; Mowgli uses fire to defeat his foe.

Are You Too Quick to Accuse Others? The Case of an Alleged Plagiarized Article With ME the Victim!

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

There I was sitting at my computer tapping away at an article that I was writing. I had just cleared my inbox of dozens of emails, some of which were welcome, most of which was useless spam. I heard it come in – “ning-nong.” (In case you are wondering, that was my attempt at replicating the sound that my email alert makes.)

“Darn!” I thought to myself. “I just cleared that.” So, I checked it again and there it was. One email. A nasty one at that. A person, who I did not know, was abusing me for ripping him off on an article at an article site I had never heard of. He was claiming that I had changed the title of an article that he had written then claimed it as my own using the resource box to point people to my website.

I was given an ultimatum and a date. The threat was clear. “Remove your name and your resource box from MY article!”

Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather. Me? A plagiarist (a copy cat)? Not a chance. Not a chance in the world! So I set about investigating the claim.

This guy was mad and I had no idea what he was going on about. But there was one thing that I knew for certain – his allegations were FALSE. I was innocent. And that was the thrust of the first email that he received from me.

After wasting considerable time looking for the site that this outrage had supposedly occurred at, I eventually found it. I couldn’t believe my eyes at first…

Yes, there was HIS article with MY name on it. But then I did a search around the site and found that it was an “article site” that had ripped EVERYBODY off. Several of my articles had been placed there – all of them had been changed and distorted and completely mangled.

I recognized several other authors known to me as well, some quite prominent ones. Every article was full of spelling mistakes, grammatical mistakes and every other mistake that I knew none of these authors would ever make. The site was a complete mess, hastily cobbled together. Whoever owned it was ripping everybody off.

I emailed my accuser with my findings. Several hours later he emailed me back, apologizing. In the intervening period he, too, realized that it was a scam site. He knew in his own mind that I was innocent.

That’s when I wondered why some people were so quick to accuse and abuse others without investigating the facts fully. Do you do that? I hope not. Sure, sometimes all of us are ripped off by unscrupulous scam-artists. It is a horrible feeling. But, rather than accuse or abuse an INNOCENT person – make sure you know all the facts first.

Back to that fraudulent website…

Oh… it is a truly woeful thing! Not only has it ripped off hundreds of authors but it has also ripped off the home page template from another site. To make matters even uglier it has simply added the letter “s” to the already existing domain name of another ezine article site. I will refrain from mentioning the domain name of this terrible site as I do not wish to give them any traffic whatsoever. I can’t see how it will ever be successful anyway due to the unbelievably low quality it displays!

My opinion is that they are taking thousands of articles from reputable article sites, messing them up with shocking mistakes, mixing up author names with other authors’ articles (like they did to me and my “accuser”) and generally tainting every person whose name appears on the site. There are thousands of innocent authors involved! I believe that it is being put together by scammers in order to sell advertizing space. It needs to be banned.

So, how did I end up with the person who falsely accused me of plagiarism? He realized that he had made a serious error. He apologized, I accepted and we parted on friendly terms. But I’m still lousy about that terrible rip-off article site. Something definitely needs to be done about that!

This article comes with reprint rights providing no changes are made and the resource box below accompanies it.

Types Of Telescopes For Astronomy

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Basic Telescope Designs

The job of a telescope is to collect light, not to magnify an image (the eyepiece does that job). The larger the objective (the part that collects the light) whether it be a lens, in refractors, or a mirror, in reflectors, the more light the telescope will collect. The more light you can collect, the more detail you will be able to capture, and also important for astrophotography, the shorter your exposures will need to be to capture this detail.

Refractor Telescopes

The type of telescope most people visualize when they hear the word telescope is the ‘Refractor’. This is what Galileo used for his break-thru discoveries. A refractor has an objective lens at the front which passes the light straight through to the back of the tube, focusing this light at an eyepiece or for astrophotography a camera.

Advantages:

-No central obstruction (see more in the reflecting scopes), giving higher contrast.

-Due to the simple design they require little maintenance.

-Excellent for planetary and lunar viewing and photography.

-Excellent for wide field viewing and astrophotography especially in shorter focal lengths (more on this later).

-Because the objective is permanently mounted and aligned there is no need for collimation (again more on this in another article).

-Excellent color in apochromatic and ED (Extra Dispersion) designs.

Disadvantages:

-Costlier per inch of aperture (objective) than reflectors and catadioptric telescopes.

-Can become bulky and difficult to manage, especially in larger lens designs.

Newtonian Telescopes

This design was invented by Sir Isaac Newton (he of the apple on the head fame). Instead of a lens at the front of the tube this telescope design uses a concave, parabolic mirror to collect light reflecting it back towards the front of the tube to a flat diagonal mirror which reflects the light out the side of the telescope to the eyepiece or camera for astrophotography.

Advantages:

-Lowest cost per inch of all the telescope designs.

-More light gathering power per dollar because of the lower cost design.

-Absolutely perfect color rendition.

-More compact design compared to a refractor of similar light gathering ability.

-Excellent contrast for planetary and lunar astrophotography and viewing in longer focal lengths.

-Can get excellent wide-field astrophotos and short exposures in shorter focal lengths.

Disadvantages:

-Slight loss of contrast due to the central obstruction (the flat secondary mirror) as compared to a refractor.

-Requires more maintenance, such as collimation (discussed in another article) which is vital for great results in your astrophotography, although you will learn how to do this quickly with practice.

Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescopes

This is a very popular design, with a high tech look. Also known as a CAT (Catadrioptics). They use a combination of lenses and mirrors to collect and focus the light onto the eyepiece or camera. The light enters the telescope through a thin ‘lens’ called a schmidt corrector plate, goes to the back of the scope to a spherical primary mirror which reflects the light back towards the front. Here the light strikes another mirror, the secondary mirror which is mounted on the corrector plate. This secondary mirror then reflects the light back towards the back where it is focused onto a hole in the primary mirror where the light is collected by an eyepiece or your astrophotography camera.

Advantages:

-Compact and portable.

-Low maintenance although once again collimation is required for top performance.

-Many, many astrophotography accessories available.

-Cheaper per inch of aperture as compared with refractors.

-Excellent all-round telescope, good to very good for both visual and astrophography.

-Very good for planetary and lunar viewing and astrophotography.

-Very good to excellent for DSO (Deep Space Object) astrophotography with a caveat (see the disadvantages).

-Very good to excellent optics, both Meade and Celestron are putting out excellent optics on a consistant basis.

Disadvantages:

-Costlier per inch of aperture as compared with Newtonian telescopes.

-Loss of contrast due to the central obstruction which is even larger than that in the Newtonian scopes.

-Due to their longer focal lengths the field of view is smaller and longer exposures are required for astrophotography, although a lens known as a focal reducer is available which minimizes or removes this problem. The longer focal length is actually an advantage in planetary and lunar photography.

Maksutov-Cassegrain

The Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope design is basically the same as the Schmidt-Cassegrain design except it uses a meniscus lens at the front instead of a Schmidt corrector plate. The main advantage to the Mak telescope design is you will get sharper higher contrast planetary and lunar images when compared with the Schmidt design.

Keeping Your Readers Interested when Writing Non-fiction

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Writing non-fiction might be the easiest of all writings, but it’s not always the easiest to keep your readers interested.

When writing non-fiction the best thing to do is research, even when the story is about you, research. Readers are generally well educated, and chances are, they will know when something is not quite right. As well, if you are writing a paper for a class or to educate about a certain subject, research is a must.

On the other hand, be sure to not overdue it. Readers do not need to know why the sky is blue and why horses aren’t used for glue anymore. Give them basic facts which relate to what you are trying to say.

Another necessity when writing non-fiction, or even fiction for that matter, is using plenty of details. Details, details, details!!! Readers love details.

Want to write about Susie’s new hairstyle? Tell us what the color is, what the length is and how it lays. It allows the reader to visualize the characters and setting better. Since this is not a movie, this is what needs to be said.

As readers are the top priority when writing, the reader must know exactly what is going on. Do not leave the small things out. Do not let the reader wonder what happened between point A and point B, unless of course it’s a murder mystery then things change but for the most part this holds true.

If you have done things story, essay, research project or whatever else you happen to be writing, will almost be ready. Just be sure to follow some guidelines along the way. Write it in some order, such as chronologically or “flash-back” style. Just don’t lose track of your readers.

If all of these can be accomplished smoothly and researched properly your story is now complete. Jump up and down and pat yourself on the back because you have done it.

Gary R. Hess is the author of Break Up Poems.

DOE and Advanced Energy Initiatives

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Most Americans do not realize that the Department of Energy has been working on the advanced energy initiatives to help our nation through its energy crisis. The goal is simple to keep up with the increasing demands in the United States of America for energy without breaking the bank of the American families. Additionally to break America’s habit on Middle Eastern foreign oil; those are both very worthy goals indeed.

But actually be done? That is a fair question and the answer is of course can. Would you take a look at the United States of America from a historical standpoint? In the last century alone look what the United States of America as accomplished? We are now these single greatest civilization ever created in the history of mankind. Currently we have the lowest unemployment rate and the largest middle-class.

We have more millionaires in the United States of America than all the other first world countries combined. Our gross national product is four times as high as the second-place nation. In the first decade of this century we were first to flight. In World War II we defeated Nazi Germany. In 1962 we put a man on the moon.

My question to most Americans is not whether we can break our addiction to foreign oil or whether we can prevent the unnecessary huge price spikes and natural gas. I know we can do that. Compared to the other achievements of United States of America has done in the Last century; heck breaking our addiction to foreign oil as a cakewalk. The American innovative spirit is alive and well and the President advanced energy initiative is exactly what we need. Now it is up to us to break our addiction to Middle Eastern foreign oil. Thanks to the top universities and private research and development centers we are well our way with new technologies, which will help achieve our goals. Consider this in 2006.
