This is part 3 of the 4-part “Seven Keys to Permanent Weight Loss Success” series.

Key #4: Make it a lifestyle

You’ve heard this one so much you probably don’t even pay attention to it anymore. The idea of a lifestyle change has become a cliché. Sure, we all want to avoid the yo-yo diet plan and make something permanent, but few people really take the effort to learn how.

Are you one of those people dead-set in making a difference, so you strap on your shoes, load your refrigerator with nothing but chicken and broccoli, then put on your blinders and focus 110% for twelve weeks until you reach your goal?

What happens after that?

Most people celebrate. They eat a lot. They take a break from training.

A few weeks later, they are back to square one. Instead of feeling great, they talk about how great it felt. Instead of looking terrific, they tell old stories like grandfathers in rocking chairs, “I remember when I could see my shoes and not my belly when I’d look down at my feet.”

It’s great to have focus and to take on the challenge and really pursue it. But have you stopped to think about what happens after?

Are you training and dieting for a few weeks, or for life?

Let me ask you this … if it’s for life, can you imagine yourself eating the way you are eating from now until you are six feet under with a bouquet of flowers above your head? If not, it’s time to change.

You see, living healthy doesn’t have to be about diets and horrendous workouts. It can be about fun. I still recall the first time I set down the barbell and put on a pair of running shoes. Several people wrote me, horrified at the thought of how my muscles would wilt and wither from the rigors of training for a half marathon. How could I give up the admirable iron game for some lousy 13-mile run through the woods? What was I thinking?

The truth is, I’m beyond the need to compare my self-worth to the depth of my abdominal cuts or the girth of my biceps. I’m in this for life, and that means having fun. While I enjoy grabbing rusty dumbbells and slinging them around as I grunt, groan, and sweat like I’m taking an indoor shower, there’s more to life than weight-lifting. That’s why I like to ski, jog, and do other activities as well. I make it fun. And you know what? I can do fun. I don’t have to always have a workout sheet and a pen to stay in shape. Sometimes all I need is a good pair of shoes, two hours of free time, and the good green earth to make my rounds.

The same is true for nutrition. Live a little. Experiment with healthy recipes. Understand what “better bad choices” and “portion control” means. If I want some cheesecake, I might order a slice and split it with my wife and daughter. You’ll catch me eating a slice of pizza on occasion, and even sipping on a glass of red wine. The key is moderation. I don’t have to count the days until my diet is over because I’m focused on the process, not the end result. Learn to get out of the finish line and into the race. You’ll enjoy it more.

Key #5: Listen to your body

“Jeremy, I can’t finish my cardio workouts because I get dizzy and nauseous when I do them first thing in the morning, but I can’t eat food because they said I have to have an empty stomach to burn fat.”

“Jeremy, I know I need a ton of protein, but I just can’t seem to get it down. I get ill eating so much protein. How will I ever build muscle?”

These questions are common, because instead of listening to their body, many people are giving up their power by following the current trend or diet program. Your body has built-in mechanisms that can teach you a lot about what you are doing and if it is working. A healthy person knows when it is time to eat, because they get hungry. A healthy person also knows whether or not they require protein. These instincts are built in, but the S.A.D. diet (Standard American Diet) is so loaded with processed food that has no counterpart in nature, it’s no wonder the signal is getting lost.

What happens when you are next to a busy intersection with a constant buzz of cars going by? Eventually, you will tune out the noise. It becomes part of the background. If you are standing next to a deserted road, however, the occasional car whizzing by will attract your attention. You’ll be “in tune.”

The typical diet is so loaded with salt that it completely nullifies your sense of taste. When you try to eat something that is low salt or salt-free, it tastes bland and disgusting. You reach immediately for the salt shaker or at least grab a bottle of Mrs. Dash and cover it with herbs and spices.

Try going without added salt for just four weeks. This is an experiment I experienced first hand, as did my wife, and so do many of my clients. The first few weeks are not fun, because everything is so dull. Then, just like a smoker who has stopped sucking on smoke for a few weeks, something amazing happens. Slowly but surely, your taste will return. Suddenly, you become aware of the subtle flavors in vegetables, fruits, grains, meats, and other foods that just tasted like salt and seasoning before. It’s an amazing experience, if you let it happen.

By removing the additives, preservatives, refined sugars, processed grains, and other artificial components of your diet, you can start to sense your needs for protein and carbohydrates as well. I don’t follow the traditional “slab of meat at every meal” bodybuilder diet. I know it’s popular, but I choose to listen to my body.

I’ve force fed pounds of protein and the end result might be a little more muscle mass, but it also leaves me staring at a block of steak wishing I was somewhere else and hoping I never have to taste a bite of meat ever again. That’s not living … it’s dieting, and I’d rather live healthy than diet miserably. So, I stay in tune. If I crave protein, I eat it. If not, I might just have a vegetarian dish. I listen to my body.

If you have the most energy on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, go for it. If you’re one of those who feels dizzy and weak, then listen to your body. Stop worrying about what “they” say about an empty stomach. Instead, get some food, let it digest, and then get to work. Whatever fat-burning benefit you might have from training on empty will be negated by your lack of energy. Add some fuel and then push down on the accelerator and go full throttle. In the end, it’s calories that are king, not whether or not you time the meal before or after your workout.

If you thrive on high protein and lower carbohydrates, that’s great. Personally, I get extremely irritable when I reduce my carbohydrates and get sick of eating protein when I raise my protein intake. So instead of giving up my power to the almighty diet, I listen to my body. I figure it knows what it wants. Of course, the trend is that you have to cut carbohydrates to lean down, so I made certain I lost 35 pounds and cut down to 7% body fat while eating 300 grams of carbohydrates and 90 grams of protein per day to prove that, first, you can lose fat even with carbohydrates in your system, and second, it doesn’t take pounds of meat and tubs of protein powder to maintain a muscular physique. The proof is in the pudding – you can see my menus and my progress here:

Bottom line, get comfortable with you. Stop ignoring your body. Listen to it. If you find that your “splurge meals” are making you sick, think about the message your body is giving you and decide if you are going to continue it week after week, or if it’s time to take off the training wheels and grow up. You don’t have to have pizza every week to enjoy life.

Using Articles To Sell Your Resale Rights Programs

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Content, content, content. You hear it all the time. Put up a web site and load it up with content. People love free things to read, search engines love it for the purpose of indexing your site and you will love it because of all the traffic it will eventually bring you. The most popular type of content is the article.

Pick just about any topic that you can think of, go to a search engine and look it up. You are bound to find thousands of articles on the subject unless you’re looking up something so obscure, like matchbox collecting, that very few people would even think of writing anything on it. But in the case of something like Internet marketing or more specifically, resale rights, there are articles coming from just about every direction. And one thing that most Internet marketers crave more than anything, especially those who are not having success, is knowledge. These articles give them the knowledge that they need.

The questions that need to be answered are, how do we get these articles and then how do we use them to sell our resale rights package?

Getting the articles isn’t that hard but depending on what route you take is either going to be time consuming or very expensive.

The time consuming option is to write the articles yourself. Most articles, to be effective, need to be at least 500 words long. You want to give your visitor a decent amount of information in the article itself so he feels that he has gotten something valuable from it. To write a 500 word article, depending on how knowledgeable you are about the subject and how fast you can type, can take anywhere from a half hour to 2 hours or more. You’re going to want to write about 10 of these right off the bat to have any kind of decent traffic come to your site. Then you’re going to want to write at least one every day to add to your site. Search engines are looking for sites with at least 100 articles to really give them a good ranking. Yes, this is a lot of work.

The expensive option is to buy these articles from a freelance writer or from a company that specializes in article writing. Most of these companies will probably have articles on just about every subject imaginable. The problem with going this route is unless you can find an up and coming writer who works cheap, you’re likely to pay as much as $25 to $50 per article. Ten articles alone can run you close to $500. To get to the 100 you would like to have for your site, well, you’re looking at a pretty penny.

But all this work and/or expense will pay off in the long run. Once your site starts moving up the search engine rankings you will begin to see visitor counts that reach thousands per day. The amount of money you make from sales will more than make up for what you spent on articles.

But how exactly do we use these articles to sell our resale rights program?

This can be done in one of two ways.

The first way is simply to make sure that the site where the articles are posted has links to your sales page and a sales pitch somewhere on the page. You want this to be clearly visible.

The second way is within the article itself. You can simply add a little pitch at the end to showcase your product or if you want to be really subtle, just put a link to your sales page at the end of the article in the section “about the author.” Of course, you can do a combination of both of these ways.

Article writing is one of the most popular selling tools on the Internet. Use them correctly and you will see sales go through the roof.

Offshore Gambling Keeps Gambling Lovers Free from Identity Theft

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Many betters should have stumbled upon the phrase “offshore sports betting”, but some maybe aren’t altogether sure what it indicates. A foreign betting web site primarily acts outside of the authority of any distinct state but alternatively it can also mean a PC accessible gambling website which locates its main servers within the borders of a nation where on-line sports gaming isn’t at this time vetoed. Succinctly therefore, it’s a gambling organisation active extraneous to the state of the customer. Computer accessible gaming internet sites are all governed through the agency of three councils. These are the OSGA (the Offshore Gaming Association), IGC (Interactive Gaming Council) and the Fidelity Trust Gaming Association FTGA.

The OSGA is in fact a self-ruling authority which presently keeps checks on the current offshore sports gambling business, their purpose is to offer betting afficionados the facility to distinguish trustworthy websites to play games of destiny with. The IGC is a not-for-profit organization. The IGC has built up a distinction for dependability, consistency also sincerity on account of the integrity standards it demands, and its allure to moral websites. The IGC regularizes overseas sports betting by means of championing a special ten-point set of instructions and also bills sports betting business concerns a fee to display their logo. The Fidelity Trust Gaming Association was set up in an attempt to present a standard to improve the criteria of on-line sports betting websites. The council suggest that conducting business with good web sites, they can put together a federation of the most honest and professional internet gambling businesses in the world at large. To sum up, there are bodies which inspect the conduct practised by on-line gambling and which should in time function to ease a few of the trepidation because of apprehension felt by gambling fans. On-line gaming sites are today entirely safe, in as much as private data are no longer a requirement and the remuneration not to mention the odds are equivalent to an orthodox Vegas-type wager. They wipe out the traveling expenditure, but maintain of a Nevada casino, however nowadays you are in a position to wager at your own pace.

Writing: It’s A Crowded, Lonely Business

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Writing is a lonely process, but as writers, we are not alone. There are thousands of us. And we are everywhere, pouring our hearts and souls into the pages of our manuscripts in the hopes of one day becoming published. As a group, we submit hundreds of manuscripts to agents and publishers every week. Our work could fill libraries. But of the hundreds of thousands of manuscripts submitted in the U.S. every year, only 100,000 get to see light of day as actual published books printed by traditional publishers. Of those, only a fraction become best sellers.

So where does that leave the rest of us? Where can we turn? What can we, the unpublished masses, do to make our voices heard?

Print-on-Demand Publishing: “Here There Be Monsters”

For many aspiring writers, an increasingly popular alternative to “traditional” publishing is self-publishing through a POD publisher. POD stands for print-on-demand (or publish-on-demand.) A POD publisher differs from a traditional publisher in that a POD publisher prints books as they are needed, whether that demand is for one, or for one hundred.

However, the very term, “print-on-demand,” evokes a mixed response, one similar to what you might get from the phrase “used car salesman.” Everyone has an opinion, and horror stories abound. But just like when you are looking for a car dealer, when you look for a POD publisher, you need to be careful and do your homework. Here are some questions you need to ask when looking for a company that offers POD services.

  • How much will they charge others for your book? Let’s be brutally honest here. No one is going to pay top dollar for a paperback written by an unknown author. Yes, by “unknown author” I mean you and me. There are just too many other more important things in life to spend money on, like food, shelter, and clothing. If the self-publisher charges too much to your potential customers, you can forget about sales.
  • Do they require that you pay for a minimum run? Some POD’s expect you to buy a certain number of your own book before they will publish your work. There’s nothing illegitimate about that; it’s just how some of them recoup their publishing costs. You just need to make sure you know what the requirements are before you agree to work with a POD publisher.
  • Which way does the money flow? Let’s keep it simple, the money should flow in the direction of the author. In other words, you should be profiting from your work. True, your writing may be a labor of love, but love don’t pay the bills!
  • Who gets to keep control over your work? Do you get final say on everything? Most things? Nothing? You need to ask.
  • Do they require a contract? If the POD wants you to sign a contract in which you must give them certain rights regarding your work, be sure to read the fine print. The first book I ever self-published was locked into a seven-year contract with the publisher. BIG mistake.
  • Are they honest about who they are? Not every POD publisher calls themself a POD publisher. Some POD’s try to hide what they are by insisting they are traditional publishers, or that they are “revolutionizing” the publishing industry by their cutting edge method. The traditional publishing industry is not given to revolution. If a POD will not be honest with you about what they are, they will probably not be honest, or fair, with you on anything else.

Don’t let these warnings discourage you from seeking out a POD. Instead, let them help you go into the POD world with your eyes open. There are legitimate POD’s out there. Let me save you a little time and heartache by recommeninding one I used to publish my latest novel Project Vectus. The POD is called Lulu and you can find it at http://www.lulu.com. Rather than go into any kind of sales pitch on their behalf, just go to their site with the questions above and decide for yourself how they measure up.

Who Needs a Firewall?

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

You do! Read more to find out what a firewall is, how it can keep you safe, and how to get one.

A Firewall is, actually, pretty much the same as its non-tech definition. A firewall, in building construction, is set up to contain or prevent fire from traveling from one side of the wall to the other – an extra bit of protection, if you will. A firewall on your pc does, essentially, the same thing.

Seven Design Avenue describes a firewall this way:

A firewall is a safeguard utilized by many Local Area Networks (LANs) or Wide Area Networks (WANs) to protect the network from unauthorized access from the outside. They are basically gates that verify the users before they leave or enter the network by way of a User ID, Password or IP address.

bytown internet explains it another way:

A Firewall is a system which limits network access between two or more networks. Normally, a Firewall is deployed between a trusted, protected private network and an untrusted public network. For example, the trusted network might be a corporate network (ie: Queens University), and the public network might be the Internet. A Firewall might grant or revoke access based on user Authentication, source and destination network addresses, network protocol, time of day, network service or any combination of these. These settings are normally controlled by the Network Administrator.

So how can a firewall help you – the average, home user?

By giving an extra level of blocking protection against spam, viruses and other malware.

Those lucky enough to be running WinXP SP2 (that’s Windows XP, Service Pack 2) already have a built-in firewall that they can use. All they have to do is turn it on. Here’s how to make sure you have SP2 and your firewall turned on:

How do I know if I’m running Windows XP?
Easy enough. On your Desktop, right-click once on My Computer and choose “Properties”. The little window that pops up should tell you which operating system you are running. If not, you can also open My Computer and choose Help: About Windows from the taskbar at the top of the window.

Ok, I’m running WinXP – how do I know if I have Service Pack 2?
The same way we just went through! Both of the ways listed above will tell you if you are running Service Pack 2 (or sp2).

Great! How do I make sure my firewall is turned on?
First off, go into your Control Panel (usually found on the Start menu). Find the “Security Center” and open it up. You should see the firewall as one of the security features offered – simply make sure it’s switched to “On”.

I don’t have Windows XP or Service Pack 2 and I have no plans to upgrade any time soon.
That isn’t a problem. There are other legitimate, and trustworthy firewall sites on the Internet (of course, there are some of the other kind, too!). Just poke around and Google “firewall program”.

What Is Your Dream in Life? My Passion of Winning the Euro Millions and Then Living a Life of Luxury for the Remainder of My Life

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

My friend Bob calls me on the phone to buzz me that he has discovered some online gambling web sites that I just have to check. I’ve never really been deep into gambling, but I figured o.k., I may give it a go. And Then I tested out some black jack and poker, only truthfully, they just aren’t my thing. Then I find these on-line e-lottery sites and then I realize that over the internet I can play all other lotteries around the world. Straight Off to me this seems a heap more enjoyment, therefore I considered I will give it a go. Firstly I tried my luck at euromillions, you know a European lottery. I decided on my lottery winning numbers and waited and daydreamed that I may win it big. I didn’t on that occasion but when the euromillions results came in; I was highly surprised to see that I had actually come very near to the winning numbers. I tested out a few other world lotteries, only I found that I did come so near the first time on the euro lotto, that I honestly had to give it one more shot. To date, I haven’t scooped millions of dollars, but then, I have won some money, and so I continue to play the euro lotto and picking lotto numbers, going for the big break. I am one of those people who like to believe in the likelihood of hitting the jackpot, because it’s hard to think making that sort of money some other way.

As for my friend, he still carries on with his love of online gambling and finds himself at the on-line gambling casino for at least an hour at a time. He too has won some money, but it has high’s and low’s and the difference is, when you lose at gambling you usually lose a heap but when you lose at the lotto, it doesn’t cost you as near as much. I reckon that the lotto is the only way for me to go foreward and the notion of winning it big and on top of that, it is only costing me just a few bucks “makes all the difference”
